Following on from reports in the Sunday Times newspaper that the Police have been called in to investigate claims of false accounting at SPT, SNP MSP Sandra White has called on all involved to be open and work with the Police to assure that faith can be restored in the transport body.

The investigation comes just days after Labour's failed to reform the organisation by rejecting opposition offers of help in leading the organisation.

Demands for real reform of SPT and public transport services in Strathclyde has been backed in Parliament.

Responding to SNP Glasgow MSP Sandra White who raised the issue at First Minister's Questions Alex Salmond indicated that if SPT does not reform itself the Government will consider changing the legislation which governs it's membership and the appointment of it's Chair and senior figures.

Proposals from the Scottish Government to inspect and regulate private ambulance services have been welcomed by SNP MSP Sandra White who first raised the issue with Health Minister Shona Robison at the end of 2008.

Glasgow MSP Sandra White raised her concerns after being approached by people working for private ambulance firms over the lack of regulation and inspection of private ambulances which are often used to transport patients in need of care and to provide medical services at events such as concerts, festivals and sports events.

The company which runs the Student Loans Company for the UK Government has today announced that it plans to slash its Glasgow operations and lay off 200 jobs in Glasgow and Hillington.

Work is also to be transferred to Darlington in the North East of England and has led to fears that this could just be the beginning of a gradual erosion of The Company's presence in Glasgow; which currently employs over 1000 people in the City and Hillington.
