Dungavel debate highlights child detention

The Scottish Parliament will tonight express it's concern over the detention of children in Dungavel.

SNP MSP Sandra White will lead a debate on the issue, days after a Westminster Committee urged the detention of children to be used sparingly.

Welcome victory for Glasgow residents

Carntyne Tenants in Carntyne, Glasgow, learned today that after twenty years of campaigning to have their houses repaired and saved from demolition there calls have finally been answered.

Housing chiefs have, after much pressure, agreed to start structural work on over 600 houses, at a cost of 38 million pounds, to ensure that they are fit to live in after the houses had been announced as defective due to the use of  cheap reinforced concrete in the building which had led to the support columns crumbling away.

Labour's Glasgow job cuts leave campaign in chaos - Brown's jobs pledge branded worthless

The SNP today branded Labour’s decision to make 4000 council workers redundant a disgrace – coming only days after Gordon Brown promised “jobs for all” to people in Glasgow.

SNP MSPs also demanded that Labour guarantee they will follow the SNP’s policy of no compulsory redundancies.

Reports in today’s Herald state that Glasgow’s Labour council is set to make 4000 people redundant in a bid to cover up Labour’s financial mismanagement.  The news comes on the same day the SNP revealed that Labour have cut teaching posts in the city by 300 in the last 12 months.

Labour's apprentice hypocrisy means 'fewer jobs for all'

Commenting on today’s article in the Observer - which has obtained UK government papers showing that the UK Labour government is planning to cut investment in apprenticeships and training places south of the border - Glasgow SNP MSP Sandra White said it was yet another example of the depths of deceit Labour would go to with voters in Glasgow.

'Invest in an Apprentice' scheme launched

apprenticeThe Scottish Government has today announced  additional support for its apprenticeship programme by providing  an incentive of £2000  to encourage small and medium businesses to recruit or 'Adopt An Apprentice.'

Through Scotaction the Scottish Government has made funds available for an additional 7,800 new apprentices and a further £6 million has been made available for a further 1,000 apprentices in Glasgow to help support the Commonwealth Games Legacy.
