Questions over Gray's leadership on McAveety comments

SNP MSP Sandra White today welcomed Frank McAveety's decision to resign his post as Convener of the Petitions Committee as she questioned Iain Gray's lack of action on the issue.

Ms White, a former member of the Petitions Committee said: "Frank McAveety's comments were utterly inappropriate and he has done the right thing by resigning, it's just a shame his party leader does not seem to know what that is."

Sandra White MSPCommenting on Frank McAveety's remarks at the Public Petitions Committee today which were caught on camera, regarding a female member of the public attending the hearing, Glasgow SNP MSP Sandra White said: "I am shocked and disgusted at these remarks. The fact that they were uttered by Mr McAveety as the convener of a parliamentary committee which had been considering extremely important and sensitive issues makes it even more sickening.

Ahead of a parliamentary debate on scandal hit Glasgow transport body SPT and the future of the subway system SNP MSP Sandra White and Glasgow Cllr Graeme Hendry have highlighted continuing concerns over the operation of the organisation and its claims to have cleaned up its act.

Following a series of revelations over the use of SPT expenses for globetrotting trips by Labour councillors and senior officials a report by accountants KPMG raised concerns over practices at the organisation.

Thousands of extra apprentices

apprenticeSandra White SNP MSP for Glasgow has welcomed the announcement by the Scottish Government that an extra 5,000 apprenticeship places have been created to help anyone aged 16 and above to enter and progress in the job market despite the current economic conditions.
