Sandra
White MSP attended the Hillhead High School Winter Concert 2009 meeting
the teachers and pupils form the Scholl along with donating this year's
Christmas tree.
The evening included various performances from the Schools Jazz Band;
Choir; Ceilidh band; guitar group; The DeadWeightz; Belle Manning; Erin
McQuarrie; Hannah Forsyth; Jane Robinson; S3 AllStarz and Percussion
Ensemble.
2009 has been an exciting year for the School with all ten schools
in the Hillhead learning community achieving Fairtrade status.
The school also raised £788 for Pink Day in aid of Breast Cancer Care
and in November S5/6 pupils raised an amazing £4,433.00 for Children in
Need with their fancy dress street collection.
Other achievements included winning the Best seconday School Drama at
the 'Determined to Make Movies Awards' held at the Glasgow Film Theatre
with their film 'Examination'. The film successfully beings to life the
thoughts and emotions experienced by pupils during exams, and,
effectively utilises different film-making techniques including
animation, special effects and voice-overs.
Speaking after the event Sandra said: "The school has had a great year
and it is a credit to the staff and pupils alike that it has gone from
strength to strength and I wish them every success for 2010.
"I was hugely impressed by the School's fantastic music department and the performances tonight were particularly impressive.
"I'd like to thank the Headmaster and Deputy Head for inviting me a
long and congratulate everyone who took part in what was a great
night."
